Autism NT Advisor

Autism NT's Autism Advisor

The Autism Advisor role is to support families who have 0 - 6 year olds

The Autism Advisor Program is part of the Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) package announced by the Australian Government.  The program is funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) and will be delivered in the Northern Territory by Autism SA.

There is currently one  Autism Advisor in the Northern Territory based in Darwin.

The Autism Advisor will:

  • Help families and carers to understand the diagnosis and the clinical treatment plan that may be prepared by the diagnostician/s
  • Provide factual, impartial and evidence based information about the types of educational and behavioural interventions that have produced positive outcomes for children with ASD's.
  • Provide information on other supports and services that may assist families and carers.
  • Assist eligible families to access the early intervention funding package, $6,000 per child per financial year ($12,000 in total) for a child under 7 years of age.
  • Information on all components of the HCWA package.

Families can contact the Autism Advisor following diagnosis, or at any time during the assessment process.  Access to an Autism Advisor is free.
